Friday, November 14, 2008

Exhibits of bridal gowns and 29-inch-high dolls are part of a fashion event today through Monday at the Twentieth Century Club in Oakland, partly in celebration of Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary.

"In Celebration of the Gilded Age: Les Petites Dames de Mode" is presented by the club in cooperation with Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum in Lenox, Mass.

There will be docent tours of the 25-doll exhibit, also known as "The Little Ladies of Fashion," along with an exhibit of Priscilla of Boston bridal dresses owned by club members and a display of beaded bags and ladies' hand fans.

The event also features lectures at 11 a.m. today, tomorrow and Monday by John R. Burbidge, retired senior designer at Priscilla of Boston. Jeffrey Folmer, executive director of Ventfort Hall, will speak after a noon brunch Sunday and wedding cake designer Cile Bellefleur Burbidge also will give a presentation.

Gourmet lunches and high tea each afternoon are also scheduled. Admission includes tour, lecture and luncheon, bunch or high tea and is $15 for children, $20 for club members and $25 for others. Group packages are available.

Proceeds benefit the decorative arts at Carnegie Museum and Ventfort Hall. Call 412-621-2353 for tickets and more information.

Also this weekend:
