Pirates hire DelPiano as special assistant to GM

The Pirates announced this afternoon that Marc DelPiano was named as a special assistant to general manager Neal Huntington.

DelPiano, 41, was a special assignment scout for the Boston Red Sox the past three seasons. He previously the previous decade as an area scout, scouting supervisor and director of player development for the Montreal Expos and Florida Marlins.

Huntington has hired four special assistants, raising his total to eight. The rest: Larry Corrigan, Jax Robertson, Doug Strange, Pete Vuckovich, Keith Champion, Jim Benedict and Joe Ferrone.
