Emergency services personnel applauded in Jefferson Hills
Tuesday, March 09, 2010

While the record-setting snowfall from February may be melting, it is not forgotten, particularly at Monday night's Jefferson Hills council meeting.

Mayor Michael A. Green read proclamations recognizing the emergency services personnel for their efforts during the snowstorm, during which a state of emergency was declared in the borough, which especially impacted the Public Works Department, the Jefferson Hills Area Ambulance Association, and three police officers.

The latter -- Sgt. William Potts, Officer Samuel Inks and Officer Stephanie Behers -- were recognized for delivering a baby in a parked car Feb. 6 outside the Blue Flame Restaurant along Route 51. The girl and mother are fine, Mr. Green said.

The Public Works Dept. also received a certificate of recognition from the county for its snow-clearing efforts during the storm.

Mr. Green also read proclamations honoring two of the borough's three volunteer fire companies: Jefferson 885, and Floreffe.

Council also said a public hearing on the borough's 2010 comprehensive plan will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in council chambers. It was rescheduled from Feb. 10, when the hearing was canceled by the snowstorm.

The plan, updated every 10 years, identifies key priorities for future land use, economic development and revitalization, community services and infrastructure, transportation and housing.
