Special events

• Community Care, which is part of UPMC, is sponsoring its annual spring conference, "Creating Hope: Developing Communities of Care for Children, Youth, Young Adults and Families," from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 23 at the Omni William Penn Hotel, 530 William Penn Place, Downtown. Keynote speakers include Marc Cherna, director of Allegheny County Department of Human Services, and Lucille Eber, Illinois State Director of Positive Behavior Support. The cost is $95 for behavioral health professionals, free for Community Care members and their families as well as medical residents and other students. The deadline is March 16. Call 412-454-8646.

Research

• The University of Pittsburgh Division of General Internal Medicine is currently seeking smokers to participate in a study on smoking cessation. Subjects must be interested in quitting smoking and be between the ages of 18 and 65, right-handed and smoke at least 10 cigarettes per day. Call 412-692-2747.
